Hypertrophic Scars
Keloid scars are comparable to hypertrophic scars. However, because they grow within the confines of the original skin defect, they may be more receptive to treatment. These scars, which are usually thick and elevated, may also seem red. Hypertrophic scars commonly appear within a few weeks of a skin injury and may improve on their own over time.
Hormones can heal hypertrophic scarring. But there is no panacea. An injectable steroid is applicable right on the scar but ineffectual. Scars can be surgically removed. Post-operative steroid injections are common. An additional two years of injections can help promote healing and prevent scar resurfacing. Silicon dioxide can help hypertrophic scars.
